WORLD AIDS DAY 2005 IN SINGAPORE-- Paul Toh, Executive Director of Action for AIDS

World AIDS Day falls on the 1st December 2005.The Theme for this year's World AIDS Day is "STOP AIDS : Keep the Promise".Its the first time UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Programme on AIDS) has handed over the responsibility for World AIDS Day to an independent organization known as The World AIDS Campaign.

Action for AIDS Singapore has decided to adopt the theme " STOP AIDS : Keep the Promise" as our main theme, with several sub-themes underlining the main theme. The sub themes are :

"STOP AIDS : Keep the Promise on enhancing Prevention for MSM"
"STOP AIDS : Keep the Promise on enhancing Prevention for High Risk Heterosexual Males" "STOP AIDS: Keep the Promise on enhancing Empowerment for Women"
"STOP AIDS: Keep the Promise on increasing outreach to Youths"
"STOP AIDS : Keep the Promise on increasing Care and Treatment"
"STOP AIDS : Keep the Promise on fighting Stigma and Discrimination in the workplace and beyond"

"STOP AIDS" is a clear message for World AIDS Day 2005 in Singapore. "Keep the Promise..." is an appeal to government, policy makers, leaders and the community at large to ensure that they stay on the track in the fight against HIV/AIDS.AfA aims to engage individuals and organizations to get actively involved in the response under the theme "STOP AIDS : Keep the Promise"World AIDS Day 2005 Campaign for Singapore will start from the 1st December 2005.

There will be a series of events and media campaign to increase awareness during this period. What can Singaporeans do for World AIDS Day 2005?- Singaporeans can wear a red ribbon and ask others to do the same,- raise HIV/AIDS awareness among the peer group you are in: be it Youths, Women, MSM or Heterosexual Males,- protect yourself and your partners all year round- and if you think you are at risk, come forward for an anonymous HIV testing at our clinic on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Our World AIDS Day Campaign begins on World AIDS Day itself. There will be a launch of the Kiehl' s Grapefruit hand and body cleanser under Youth AIDS to bring higher awareness among youths on HIV in Singapore followed by the premiere of HBO Original Movie, ANGELS IN AMERICA, on the HBO service.

There will also be a performance art on Dec 1st called "Silent Dialogues With Bottles" to be held at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts at 7pm. The performance is by two independent artists, Ms Sabrina Koh and Ms Natasha Wei, who will engage the audience on sexuality and empowerment of women. This is jointly supported by AFA and AWARE and donations from this event will go to the anonymous HIV testing for women. There will also be outreach to bars on that particular day to make it a safer sex night out where selected bars are given condoms and safer sex materials to be given to their patrons.

Aids knows no boundaries. Aids doesn't care if you're male or female, rich or poor, straight or gay, old or young, local or foreigner etc. It doesn't judge us by the colour of our skin, or the status of our families. It has the potential to strike every and anyone. So be safe. PRACTISE SAFE SEX or ABSTAIN, DO NOT SHARE NEEDLES, HECK THROW THOSE DRUGS AWAY!

There's so much i want to say but i fear i might give wrong information so just go here:

Haiz...such a nice day ruined by an immature comment...what? Does not applying for PAE means i'm trying to be "smart" or lazy? Dream on. While you stew your asses, i'll be colouring my world.

Anyways, just back from G4C bbq...
who knew organising a bbq gathering in a week would be hard work? Yet as they say, you reap what you sow, and i have relished the fruits of our labour. If you dun want to read on, let's just say it was a blast. If you still want a peek into my fairly boring and unattractive life, read on...

It's been a hectic week of calling people up, confirming and re-confirming the attendees and of course, trying to get the supplies. In the end, only Siow yi(my co-conspirator), Lok Fung (the house master), Kaiyi (HE actually WORE PINK*!!!), Chin yue, Zhang yun, Zhi Kai, Pak Man, Xinyi, Rosie and Darryl came. The rest were either uncontactable or were not free, like they're prancing down the streets of London or HK. lol.

Anyways, Lok Fung was supposed to meet us up at 3 to buy food (yes, i shall admit here, no otahs because of me. I couldn't go to the bedok factory because my parents didn't allow). He was late...later than me! I was only late by five horrendous minutes. Him? Who knows? I didn't wear my watch. (reminder to self: prepare earlier and get new specs, clothes, shoes and watch)

Then went to his condo. quite a walk but nice on-site commentary by siow yi!
(This house too white!)

Yup, reached his place where we slacked. Nice view because one can see Singapore Poly from the balcony (and the neighbour's garden!) Lok Fung's father was extremely inviting, showed us War of the Worlds even though we didn't ask. Lok Fung's cat was EXTREMELY fat and BIG. haha. I LOVE it. So adorable.

Siow yi played the piano like a professional painist, played my favourite songs like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (Gawd, i love the piece!) and Titanic's my heart will go on...haha. i know it's a rather lame love song but it bring back extremely fond bittersweet memories (Nooo, it wasn't memories of some crush or whatever! Rather it was teacher's day concert...shall not comment further)

Then Xinyi and Chang Yun called. Both stuck at Pandan Valley! Lol. Kaiyi and Lok Fung went to get them at first before they called. (Darryl's call was annoying. Now if you are reading this, pls dun feel insulted but ya, why couldn't you at least tell us where you were?! People. Some say God's marvels, I say the world's complexity embodied)

Everyone arrived soon after and the BBQ was started by our master chef, Kaiyi. Lok Fung helped a LOT. The rest of us either snacked on Nachos(dipped in tuna dip...surprisingly addictive) or played billards in the billards room. Had skewered chicken, sausages (halal chicken, non-halal chicken and pork) and satay. i am SO NOT going to touch chicken for a week or maybe more...kind of sick of it.

Too bad plans got awry or else, all the black-black chicken would have been devoured by the people in the room. Anyways, they later came to help. Too bad no one took photos or videoed Zhang yun bbqing...downright hilarious! hopping away from the heat and such until Darryl stepped in(after being fed up being fed blackened chicken)

Seriously, it was a blast catching up, talking about trivial things, eating, playing etc. Took plenty of photos and three videos. Had short performances like the world's shortest pole dance, impressions of koala bears etc. Oh and playing with sparklers. I think all of us were in touch with our inner child who got out and went crazee! Ran around the pool with the sparklers etc.

Oh and Lokfung thought he had made easy money. We placed small bets on him that he couldn't go thru this window at the carpark. He mistook it for the one at the driveway (because we said beside the door, both were techically correct). Haha. He ACTUALLY attempted it! Brave soul he is...too bad he failed lah.

Then called fr heng as a class. Who cares if we made too much noise? So, let's continue ya? Talked with the greatest german teacher ever and now, listen up.

ALL G4C students of year 2005, Mon, Wed, 4.30-6.30, pls mark down the 3rd of FEB 2006! We have dinner with frau heng! Everyone must attend...please?

Except lok fung. Poor guy. Flying off to melbourne before christmas to continue his academic progress. (and currently bedless) lol.

oh and pls do join the specifically set up MSN group for us, done by the lovely Xinyi. For you to fill us in on your details of holidays or whatever, inform you of future meetings/gatherings and so on. Yes, the pictures are there too. Just don't scream "FREAK" when you see my waist. :P

Ok, that's it. I SO have to sleep. it's like 1.30am already! yikes.

Thank you guys and gals so much for the excellent day and BBQ! The best one i've ever attended!
