This past few days, I haven't been moving much. (unless you consider lifting the remote control and crawling to bed moving then fine)

Thankfully, today proved to be a day where I have an excuse to go out. Okay, so I've been itching to go out but heck, no money. You know what they say...money makes the world go round.

So anyways, went to World Farm, a landscaping shop of sorts.

okay...let's take a detour for a short while. WTF is wrong with the word omg? Hmm...my father told my mum to tell me that he's mad when I use the word. Now I'm trying to figure out if I have ultra pious parents or not...let me think. NOT. So what's wrong with saying omg? Okay, to some people, it's using the god's name in vain (I'm hearing mdm ong, my sec 1 eng teacher in my head now...). And you know what he told my mum to tell me? To erm...how do I put this? Istifar? Which in my opinion, would have been used in the TOTALLY wrong context in most cases, say seeing a super great sale like 90% off storewide or something. So those in the know, you might find it as ridiculous as I did. I'm on the verge of laughing now.

But notice how my father has to go through my mum to tell me almost anything? I find it very weird. It's like my mum's a messenger or something. Oh well. I don't give a damn. It's not like I have a lot of things in common with my old man anyways.

So back to the main issue at hand...World farm is located at this remote, off the map place. It felt like taking a trip back in time when roads were halfway done and such. Looked through the prices of many plants and then had lunch at KFC (despite me disliking the cloying smell) before I headed home.

And until now, I've been downloading oh SO many files. All of which I might add are in that grey area...musicals, old radio broadcasts, sch's performances etc. I can't help it if I love musicals. The colourful costumes, the theatrical scenes, the orchestral pieces...what's there that's not to be liked?

Well, to my parents, in particular my father, asians going for theatre performances is a sign that we are still influenced by the British or some rubbish like that. *rolls eyes* To them, it's as though we're still living in colonial times. (gawd, sometimes, I wish I did...okay, wait. there were no air cons then right? Ok...no bloody way)

I guess I can partially understand the reasoning behind it; after all, the rich upper crust of colonial Britain were the ones who usually went for such performances. The other implication was that the poorer people and most of Asia then didn't go for such stuff. But then again, isn't chinese opera sort of a musical? A contradiction no?

I have a decent explaination as to why most asians didn't venture into the theatre then. It was because they were more concerned about bread and butter issues, their ricebowls etc. It makes plenty of sense since people then were practically part bunnies; having so many kids. I'm not saying that they didn't enjoy the arts or what nots but rather, they had less time for that. They caught what they could, unlike those who already had their iron ricebowls. Thus, even when the Brits returned from whence they cometh, the mindset that the theatre was reserved for the rich (and the west) still remains.

And Singapore wonders why the arts scene is so stagnant - reason? People need more time to realise that the arts, the theatre is for everyone! After all, if it wasn't for the 'peasants' where would Broadway be?

Thus ends my short diatribe. I'm just wondering how many people still think like my parents- that the theatre is for the rich and the 'angmoh'. Hmm...

Oh heck. I'll go prancing around now singing "castle on a cloud".

Taa taa!
